Aïchoucha

worldwide

The "Aïchoucha" project is an audiovisual project led by Khalil Hentati that combines electronic music and videos captured during a journey across Tunisia. The project aims to explore the various traditional and popular Tunisian music styles in different regions of the country.

The performance takes the form of a live interaction between the musician and the sounds and music from a documentary video, which itself is the result of field research. The project is inspired by the technique known as ultra-score, where sounds from a film are used to create music. Ultra-score is defined as a sonic and visual object made from fragments of reality.

With this project, the artist proposes to introduce the visual aspect (video) to offer the audience a new musical experience that combines live performance with sound and image. The project highlights the various facets of traditional and popular Tunisian music, which is still alive today, from Malouf to the songs of the Awamriya brotherhood, from the Tbal of Kerkennah to the Salhi of Tataouine, from the region of Rgueb to the Rakrouki on the border with Algeria.

Khalil Hentati believes that electronic music can play an important role in preserving traditional and popular music through its approach and sampling and reediting process. It allows for taking, renewing, reanimating, remixing, mixing, and merging, thereby leaving creators free to deconstruct and build, to bring forth and be reborn.
